Smokin Aces BBQ competes in first AZ competition

The Team was set. Kevin Hardin as Chief Cook and Wesley Jurena and his son Jared assisted. The was a Triple Crown event under Kansas City Barbeque Society Rules. It was a rough start. Mapquest was very confused as to where Buckeye Arizona was located and we ended up showing up two hours after cooks meeting. Managed to get a space and set up by 9:00 pm and get Big Tex lit. We run a BBQ Guru Pit Minder that failed in the first ten minutes. I know they will figure it out at BBQ Guru but that left us tending this beast all night long. It is very stable and the amount of steel 3/16" thick keeps the swings to a minimum but it eats two logs an hour even with 40 lbs of charcoal. We are officially award winning BBQ with a 9th place in chicken and a 15th place overall finish. See the photo album for some of our pics.


Smokin Aces does San Gennaro

The San Gennaro Feast is Las Vegas' only Italian Festival. It was September 9th - 14th 2008. Over 60 restaurants and food vendors exhibited. Over 150 additional arts and crafts and specialty vendors. There was a huge beer garden sponsored by Miller and Peroni. State Fair size carnival with over 80 rides. Well, we took a chance. Total bust. What were we thinking that people would want BBQ at an Italian fest. Victim of con man Eddie Dorfman who sold us the booth space. It was a great event. Very organized. Staff was extremely helpful but we were smack dab into a very bad economy and attendees kept their hands in their pockets. We actually will do next year but take a much smaller space and change up the menu.
